The trouble with the internet is that it doesn’t feel or smell as good as a nice new book. Imagine my joy when the very lovely Central Station shared the news that they’re celebrating 35,000 extraordinary works of art with the launch of new table book. And that I’m allowed to give you a sneaky peek.

I came across Central Station very recently – for those of you that don’t know it’s an online community linking together artists, writers, filmmakers and photographers at every stage of their career. Launched in 2009 with funding from Channel 4 and Creative Scotland, the project aims to showcase new talent, but moreover, to promote collaboration and interaction, to inspire new content and to deliver innovative funding solutions. They are also one of the friendliest and supportive organizations I’ve ever been in touch with.

18 months in, Central Station is celebrating its achievements (and so they should) with the launch of a collectable new book of the best of members work and the projects they have supported, which will be available to print on demand and also as a free digital download from January. Now you know what to spend your Christmas money on. You’re welcome.

Throw Some Shapes

Dave’s great, he let’s us do what we want. Back in the Spring we produced a stop motion animation for Dave’s label for an artist called Lost Twin, it was the first release for the label. Since, Throw Some Shapes have teamed up with Tru Thoughts, an amazing label, and nationwide distribution is imminent. Brilliant. Our newest brief was to produce a piece of moving image of roughly 20 minutes long, by way of a ‘VJ set’. We didn’t have long. I like facepainting and the amazing ‘BLU’ animations, so we kinda merged the two ideas to create a looped 20 minute stop animation for a TSS night, tomorrow night at the Brighton Coalition featuring the marvelous Gold Panda amongst others. We came up with the idea and did it in a panic in only two weeks thanks to the mad skills of Alyssa Peacock, animator extraordinaire. Tickets are still available on the door, come on down, it’s sure to be a cracker.

Green Thing are full of creative ideas to turn green living from something you ought to do to something you want to do. They’re nothing but good. They’ve just launched their ‘Next Big Thing’ which is an anti-waste T-Shirt line. It’s called Saved. In the Summer they took your unwanted T-Shirts with a plan to give them a new lease of life and a lovely new home. And that’s what they’re doing. Some famous types donated theirs which you can get your hands on Golden Ticket style. Take a look at some of the T-Shirts on display in various galleries and cafes around London. It’s time to start Christmas shopping and save the world. Please.

The one thing I hate more than Katie Waissel from ITV’s ‘The X Factor’ is that my parents didn’t send me to stage school as I requested aged eight. I will probably never meet Simon Cowell now. Rather than sulk about missing the boat I will be spending this November singing my little heart out thanks to the very brilliant project that is HMTPNG. This is my time. And yours. Sign up now.

‘Hometaping’ is a big effort to help as many people as possible to record an album of their own music in one month. It is a celebration of what happens when they do. You have 30 days to make your album, which ideally should be at least 20 minutes long. Hometaping begins Monday 1st November 2010 and ends at midnight on Tuesday 30th November. There is no judging. There is no competition. There are no other rules. You don’t have to make it better than anyone else’s. You just have to make it. When you’re done, you can upload your music to our website. We will be hosting parties for everyone who is involved, and providing help to get you through.’

It’s too cold to go outside. So instead invite your friends over to do some interesting things with Autumn vegetables. We were all a bit nervous at first but once we got started it was fine.
